Codeine

Codeine is a narcotic medicine prescribed to help manage mild to moderate pain in cats and dogs.

Dosage

If you miss a dose ensure it is given as soon as possible, however, if it is almost time for the next dose then skip the missed dose and continue as normal. Ensure two doses are not administered together.

I have heard that this drug can have side effects, how will this affect my pet?

Your pet may experience the following side effects: drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, constipation and apparent obstruction of the intestine. If you notice any of these symptoms and they become persistent, consult your vet.

Medicine Storage

Ensure this medication is kept out of children’s reach. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.

Possible drug interactions

Ensure your vet is aware of any other medication you are giving your pet. Drug interaction is not uncommon when two differing medications are prescribed. The following drugs may interact with codeine – barbiturates, phenothiazines and other CNS depressants.
